Geste helps you remember the people you give gifts to and what you gave them. It has no accounts, no sign-in, and no advertising. This page describes exactly what leaves your phone, and when.
What stays on your device
The people you add, their birthdays and occasions, your gift ideas and purchases, budgets, wishlists, notes, and any photos you attach are stored in a database on your phone. They are not uploaded anywhere and we cannot see them. Deleting the app deletes all of it.
What leaves your device: Gift Plans
The Gift Plan feature is the only part of Geste that sends anything to a server. When you create a Gift Plan and share its link, the following is sent to the Geste service and stored there so contributors can open the link:
- The first name of the person the gift is for, and the occasion.
- Your first name as the organizer.
- The gift ideas, notes, and suggested per-person amount you typed in.
- The first names of contributors, and the reactions and ideas they submit.
Nothing else from the app is sent — not your other people, not your gift history, not your photos. A plan is reachable only by its unguessable share link. Closing a plan removes it. We do not sell or share this data, and it is not used for advertising or profiling.
Crash reports
Geste uses Sentry to report crashes and errors so they can be fixed. A crash report contains the technical details of the failure — the error, the code path, the device model, and the operating system version. It does not contain your gift data, your contacts, your photos, or your name, and it is not linked to your identity. Sentry acts as our data processor; see sentry.io/privacy.
What we never do
Geste does not track you. There is no advertising SDK, no analytics profile, no third-party tracker, and no data broker. Nothing collected by this app is used to follow you across other apps or websites.
Permissions
Geste asks for camera and photo access only if you attach a picture to a gift, contacts access only if you pull a name in when adding a person, and notification permission only when you set a reminder for an occasion. Declining any of them leaves the rest of the app fully usable.
Children
Geste is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect their data.
Your rights
Because there are no accounts, the data on your phone is under your direct control — delete a person, a gift, or the app itself. For Gift Plan data held on the server, close the plan in the app, or write to us and we will delete it.
